Media Molecule Talks About Gaming Issues
Posted Under: Games
In business, not only are we facing a battered down, thrashed economy, but in the world of gaming business, many issues often have to do with staying relevant and competitive, intellectual property and even copyright infringements.
So it’s nice to see a company like LittleBigPlanet address these issues in a positive, optimistic light.
Despite sluggish sales, MM’s Alex Evans and David Smith are hopeful. "There’s different reasons that you could be disappointed with the sales and look at it that way, or you can say we kept pace with the Fallouts, etc." But MM are going to keep releasing packs so "every few months this thing improves so it stays visible and people stay excited."
As intellectual property (IP) laws restricts LBP from using stages that impersonate movie and game characters, its had to discontinue using them. However, much to LBP’s surprise, as long as those "characters" are rendered in a positive light, many IP holders don’t mind and have asked them to do so.
It also doesn’t hurt MM’s business that its Sackboys are the ubiquitous adorable and familiar face for PlayStation3 which allows the developer to keep churning them out as long as there are fans who wants these fun packs.
Good for them. With so much negative news of studios going bankrupt, staff layoffs, and other forms of downsizing, it’s great to see someone be optimistic in the gaming business.
