Touch HD, Welcome to America!
Posted Under: Mobile
While earlier reports from HTC have revealed that the firm had no intention of bringing the Touch HD to the States, it seems that the Taiwanese OEM may reverse its stance and offer an American version compatible with North American 3G frequencies.
Engadget Mobile is publishing a report from WMPowerUser that outs the firm’s service manual that lists a variant that supports North American 3G bands–yup, the same bands used by AT&T in the States. However, whether AT&T adopts the phone and offer it through their channels is another thing, but if there is a version floating out, HTC can very well push it unlocked and unbranded through retail outlets like Best Buy Mobile.
The phone can be seen as a business competitor to the iPhone, which is now offered exclusively on AT&T in the US. That may impede the likelihood of AT&T getting the Touch HD because of the carrier’s historic protective stance over the iPhone its flagship touchscreen and keyboard-less hardware, perhaps also a reason why the original Touch was not adopted on the carrier (instead the Touch made it to Verizon and Sprint for CDMA).
