We tend to view history as a once-familiar path that is no longer well-maintained. But along that path, specific mileposts occasionally arise that are so profound that they remain clearly visible across the spans of time. Backtrack to 1968 for a moment. The hit TV show Star Trek was in its third season, the emergency [...]

For most people, a quick glance at Facebook, Twitter or MySpace is enough to get up to speed on one’s social circle. So why would you need to haul yourself to a computer just to do that?
You don’t. As long as you’ve got the right phone.
U.S. cellular networks, in their endless quest to make the [...]
Electronics has figured into physical activity since at least the 1780s, when Luigi Galvani used static electricity to make a dead frog twitch.
This might seem like too much Frankenstein and not enough frankincense, given the time of year. I’ll de-myrrh on that point.
But Galvani’s breakthrough in biology leads to an important point: What happens [...]

Grandma in Kentucky will be buying her granddaughter in Virginia a purple iPod this Christmas for one reason — its color.

All right, already — enough with the iPhone wannabes! Sprint Instinct, BlackBerry Storm, T-Mobile G1, LG Dare, HTC Diamond, Sony Xperia X1, Motorola Krave, Samsung just-about-everything. Black body, silver bezel, black touch screen, online app store. We get it. Can we move on now?
What about regular, non-touchscreen mobile phones — the ones preferred by the [...]
The buzz on the Internet was that Nokia would announce it is building a laptop computer. That was off the mark, but it’s easy to see how the rumor got started. The N97 smartphone that the Finnish company unveiled in Barcelona on Dec. 2 looks very much like a laptop, albeit one that fits in [...]
Stephanie Myers of Allston is the best around, and nothing’s going to ever keep her down. How does she know? The 26-year-old’s cell phone tells her so every time it rings.
